Neuromodulation

Neuromodulation is the use of direct and indirect electrical stimulation to modify brain and nerve cell activity within the body for the treatment of disease. The technology includes both invasive and non-invasive medical devices to treat various acute and chronic clinical indications and numerous neurological conditions.

Indications for neuromodulation devices continue to evolve at an increasing rate, and it is one of the fastest growing fields of medical technology. Neuromodulation is beginning to enable physicians to treat acute and chronic conditions that in the past could only be treated by pharmaceutical or surgical intervention. Current applications include pain management, depression, anxiety, obesity, incontinence, migraines, and the treatment of emesis.

Neurmodulation devices are comprised of three essential components:

    1. Pulse Generator
    • Houses the key electronic components that create the unique electrical pulse waveform that enables the desired therapeutic effect and clinical efficacy; the “brain” of a neuromodulation device.

    2. Leads & Electrodes
    • Transfers specific electrical pulses generated by the device circuitry to the area of stimulation.

    3. User Interface
    • Provides the Physician/Patient with the ability to increase or decrease stimulation levels to match their unique needs.

NMT’s transdermal neuromodulation technology platform combines all three components into a miniaturized transdermal device that is not only easy to use for the patient, but also allows the patient to fully control its application and use as needed. Transdermal neuromodulation solutions offer the benefit of being a drug-free, targeted, and reversible therapy. It provides efficacious treatment without the complications and side effects of other solutions.
